About Us
The Quebec English Literacy Alliance (QELA) is a network of urban and rural literacy groups, promoting literacy and essential skills training through awareness-building and information-sharing activities. Our focus is the upgrade of essential skills among adults in the community, and – increasingly important – the workplace.
Although our roots are firmly entrenched in basic literacy training, global competitiveness is driving a demand for a workforce that demonstrates a higher proficiency in all essential skills, from reading and writing to document use and digital literacy. Through our strategic partners, we help businesses and employees recognize, assess and upgrade the essential skills required to perform at their best today and in the years to come.
Our five-year mission is to be recognized as the leading bilingual organization in Québec that matches learners, businesses and community development groups with literacy programs and tools, including workplace training, for the English-speaking workforce. This will be accomplished with the support of a professional membership that represents multiple facets of adult learning, and through strategic alliances with like-minded associations who recognize the importance of improving essential literacy skills within their domains.
QELA believes, that irrespective of age or present skill level, learning makes people happier and healthier while building confidence and allowing them to grow and seek new opportunities. We are firmly committed to the belief that no learner will be left behind. Through our members and partners, we offer literacy and essential skills training designed to bridge the gap between where they are today and where they want to be.
