The Centre for Literacy of Quebec announced that they have received funding from the Office of Literacy and Essential Skills (OLES), HRSDC, to consolidate its role as a centre of expertise on adult literacy and essential skills. This will allow the centre to offer resources and services across the country – to share knowledge, broker new partnerships through their national and international connections, and strengthen their internal capacity to sustain these services.
The centre will produce more research briefs and hold two institutes a year beginning in 2011. Consultation with colleagues and partners will help them choose topics and issues, and they look forward to new collaborations. They will continue to seek other funding and support for their demonstration community projects that are not included in this initiative, such as their health literacy hospital projects, writing in the community, and HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters).
The centre is also seeking nominations for three board members from across Canada, beginning in September 2010. Nominees should have a combination of interests and skills in workplace learning, financial oversight, or human resources. For more information on the nomination process, contact the centre.

Congratulations to the Centre for Literacy of Quebec on being awarded funding for this important and timely work!
